About Gohoud

“Gohoud” is a human rights group that aims to continue on, improve & develop the Egyptian human rights movement. It also aims at supporting the work of human rights defenders, through providing them with a wide range of services, starting with keeping and archiving the work of the Egyptian human rights movement over its previous generations, and providing capacity building programs for human rights defenders in Egypt. Additionally, attracting new generations of human rights defenders, in order to protect the right of individuals and groups to defend human rights, through establishing a community incubator for their work in Egypt and advocating the issues of defenders at risk, as well as providing support services and consultations of all kinds.

“Gohoud” was established in 2021 by a group of Egyptian human rights defenders from various academic and professional backgrounds. Gohoud’s team works to achieve the organization’s vision and objectives based on their deep belief that the protection of human rights begins with the protection of defenders of such rights, especially in times when defending human rights has huge consequences.

“Gohoud” works in accordance with the international human rights standards. It adopts a broad definition of human rights defenders that allows to see the differences between them. Such differences result from the intersection of human rights defending with gender identity, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, ethnicity, and other characteristics that make the experience of each human rights defender, unique.

Vision

A world where everyone enjoys basic human rights without discrimination; Where the voices of human rights defenders are raised without fear; where they practice their activities safely, and are protected from all forms of violations, targeting, and stigmatization.

Mission

We work to promote and sustain the work of human rights defenders inside and outside Egypt. Additionally, we advocate for the right of such people to practice human rights defending in a safe environment.

Objectives

  • Contributing to building capacities of the new generations of human rights defenders and working to integrate new advocates for the human rights movement continuously.
  • Working on developing and innovating new effective tools and methodologies for advocating human rights nationally, and regionally.
  • Contributing to limiting violations of human rights defenders for their human rights activities and providing a safe environment for them.
  • Working on documenting and keeping the experience of the previous generations of human rights movement in Egypt.
  • Contributing to enhancing the effectiveness and strengthening the international and regional mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights defenders.
